Rabbit anti caspase-3 antibody recognizes caspase-3 also known as cysteine protease CPP32. Caspase-3 as the name implies is a member of the cysteine-aspartic acid protease family. Caspase-3 gets cleaved from an inactive 32 kDa zymogen into p17 and p12 chains. These two subunits dimerize to form the active caspase 3 protein, which acts as an effector caspase that cleaves and activates caspase-6, 7 and 9. Via this process caspase-3 plays an important role in mediating apoptosis.
