Principle of Assay
The kit provides a simple method for detecting free cholesterol concentration in a variety of biological samples such as serum, plasma, tissues, cells, and bacteria. In the assay, cholesterol oxidase catalyzes the conversion of free cholesterol to delta-4-cholestenone and hydrogen peroxide. Further, hydrogen peroxide, 4-aminoantipyrine and phenol react in the presence of peroxidase to form a red quinone compound which has a characteristic absorption peak at 500 nm. The free cholesterol present in the sample is proportional to the absorbance at 500 nm.
