Proteinase K is specifically formulated to achieve proteolytic digestion of formalin fixed, paraffin embedded tissue sections prior to performing in situ hybridization procedures. Proteolytic digestion of formalin fixed tissues improves the accessibility of target DNA to biotinylated probes, which results in better in situ staining.
