This antibody recognises rat calcitonin receptor, also known as CT-R or C1A/C1B.Calcitonin receptor is a seven-transmembrane domain G protein-coupled receptor that binds the protein hormone calcitonin. It is expressed in kidneys, central and peripheral nervous system, skeletal muscle stem cells and osteocytes. Investigations on calcitonin receptor’s function have mainly focused on its role in regulating calcium homeostasis and osteoclast-mediated bone resorption. However, a growing body of evidence suggests that calcitonin receptor could also be involved in foetal morphogenesis and cancer development.Rabbit anti rat calcitonin receptor antibody binds to an intracellular epitope of the calcitonin receptor that is shared by both C1a and C1b rat calcitonin receptor isoforms. It has been shown to cross-react with mouse calcitonin receptor.
