This antibody recognises cell division protein kinase 8, also known as cell division protein kinase 8 or mediator complex subunit CDK8.CDK8 is a 53 kDa is a member of the cyclin-dependent protein kinase (CDK) family involved in transcriptional regulation via interaction with the mediator complex. CDK8 regulates the activity of several transcription factors via its kinase activity, including STAT1. CDK8 is also able to inhibit transcriptional activation by influencing the turnover of subunits in the mediator complex tail module and mediating the binding of RNA polymerase II to the mediator complex. Expression of CDK8 may contribute to the development of a number of different types of cancer (Firestein et al. 2008, Donner et al. 2007).
