This antibody recognises ETS domain-containing protein ELK-1.ELK-1 is a protein that functions as a transcription activator. ELK-1 is a member of a subclass of the ETS family known as ternary complex factors (TCFs). TCFs are characterized by a common protein domain that regulates DNA binding to target sequences. In non-neuronal cells, ELK-1 is expressed in the nucleus. However, in mature neurons ELK-1 is present in the cytoplasm as well as the nucleus and plays a crucial role in a number of neurological processes, including the formation of long-term memory and drug addiction. ELK-1 expression has been implicated in a number of diseases, including Down syndrome, Alzheimer’s disease and depression.
