This antibody recognises high mobility group nucleosome-binding domain-containing protein 2, also known as non-histone chromosomal protein HMG-17.HMGN2 is a 9 kDa member of the HMG class of chromosomal proteins, the most abundant non-histones present in the nuclei of eukaryotic cells. Chromatin regions with high levels of HMGN2 are enriched in transcriptionally active genes and in acetylated histones. HMGN2 associates with actively transcribed genes. HMGN2 also binds to the inner side of the nucleosomal DNA, thereby regulating the interaction between the DNA and the nucleosome. HMGN2 may also play a role in maintaining transcribable genes in a unique chromatin conformation.
