This antibody recognises paired box protein PAX6, also known as aniridia type II protein (AN2) or oculorhombin.PAX proteins contain a highly conserved DNA-binding domain, known as the paired box, and are important in the early stages of development. PAX6 expression has been shown to be particularly important for the development of eyes and other sensory organs as well as certain neural and epidermal tissues (Fernald, 2004).
