General Notes
Mouse anti Human Factor P antibody, clone 062-27.8.1 (10-18) recognizes human factor P, a 53 kDa glycosylated protein present in blood serum. Factor P binds to microbial surfaces and binds and stabilizes the complement component 3- and complement component 5-convertase enzyme complexes. C3b then acts as an opsonin or initiates the complement pathway again creating a positive feedback loop which acts only on the bacterial cell, leaving the host cells unharmed. Deficiency of factor P makes the host more susceptible to bacterial infections, particularly to Neisseria species and meningococcal infections.Mouse anti Human Factor P antibody, clone 10-18 is reported to inhibit the function of factor P. Removal of sodium azide is recommended prior to use in functional assays.
