SMAD4 is a transcription factor and belongs to the dwarfin/SMAD family. SMAD4 is categorized as the common mediator SMAD (co-SMAD); it associates with receptor-regulated SMADS (SMAD1, SMAD2, SMAD3, SMAD5 and SMAD8) and plays a key role in the TGF-beta signaling pathway.
