This kit provides a simple method for determining cell viability and cell number using a colorimetric assay suitable for routine cell culture analysis.
Applications
Functional Assays, Functional Studies
Assay Type
Quantitative
Principle of Assay
This assay is based on WST-8, a water-soluble tetrazolium salt that is reduced by cellular dehydrogenases in viable cells to form a soluble orange formazan dye. The amount of formazan produced is proportional to the number of living cells and can be measured colorimetrically.
Platform
96-Well Microplate
Sample Type
Cultured cells
Assay Time
1-4 hours
Components
CCK-8 Solution
Storage
Shipped at 4°C. Store at -20°C in the dark for long-term storage. Repeated freeze/thaw cycles cause an increase in the background, which interferes with the assay. Please store the kit at 4°C for frequent use. Do not use past expiration date!
General Notes
Since this assay measures dehydrogenase activity in viable cells, treatments or conditions that alter cellular dehydrogenase activity may result in differences between the actual number of viable cells and the number estimated by the assay. A clear, flat-bottom 96-well microplate is required for this procedure.
