Fluorometric assay for quantifying viable cells based on esterase activity.
Applications
Functional Assays, Functional Studies, Cell Counting Kit Series
Principle of Assay
Intracellular esterases in living cells hydrolyze a non-fluorescent substrate to fluorescent calcein. Fluorescence intensity is directly proportional to viable cell number.
Storage
Shipped at 4°C. Upon delivery store at -20°C.

Correlation between cell number and fluorescence intensity measured with Cell Counting Kit-F. Fluorescence increases linearly with cell number in a 96-well plate format, demonstrating suitability for quantitative cell counting.
Excitation and emission spectra of calcein used in Cell Counting Kit-F, showing fluorescence detection in the green region suitable for quantitative measurement of viable cells.
