Principle of Assay
This kit is specially developed for the detection of hydroxyl free radical scavenging capacity in various samples. The operation is simple and convenient, and the detection is sensitive and accurate. In this assay, hydrogen peroxide/ Fe2+ generates hydroxyl free radicals through the Fenton reaction. Salicylic acid can effectively capture the generated hydroxyl free radicals and reacts with them to produce 2,3-dihydroxybenzoic acid with a maximum absorption peak at 520 nm. The presence of substances with the capacity to scavenge hydroxyl free radicals, will reduce the absorbance at 520 nm. The absorbance at 520 nm will reflect the free radical scavenging capacity of the test sample.
