Principle of Assay
JC-1 accumulates in polarized mitochondria as red fluorescent aggregates, whereas depolarized mitochondria retain the dye in its green fluorescent monomeric form. The red-to-green fluorescence shift is used to assess changes in mitochondrial membrane potential.
