Name
Anti-Orexin Antibody
Description
Sheep polyclonal antibody to Orexin.
Specificity
This antibody recognises the human orexin A subunit of orexin, also known as hypocretin. Orexin is cleaved into Orexin A, also known as hypocretin-1, a 32 amino acid excitatory neuropeptide linked to alertness and wakefulness in humans. Orexin A binds to both orexin receptors 1 and 2 with similar affinity whilst orexin B corresponding to the C terminal region of the holopeptide binds only to the orexin receptor 2.Mutations in the orexin gene can lead to the development of Narcolepsy 1 (NRCLP1), a condition characterized by sleep fragmentation and daytime drowziness, abnormal REM sleep and sleep paralysis along with other sleep related symptoms. Sheep anti Human orexin A antibody is a useful reagent for immunohistochemistry on formalin fixed, paraffin embedded tissue sections.
