This antibody recognises tetanus toxin, also known as tentoxylysin, produced by the soil micro-organism Clostridium tetani. Infection by Clostridium tetani. results in its systemic growth and secretion of tetanus toxin which causes muscle spasms by inhibiting neurotransmitter release. Goat anti tetanus exotoxin antibody also reacts with the C-fragment (~50 kDa carboxy terminal residues 865-1315) of tetanus toxin.
