General Notes
Mouse anti Pig CD1 antibody, clone 76-7-4 recognizes a porcine homologue of the human CD1 cell surface receptor. CD1 is a member of the immunoglobulin superfamily. While it is structurally similar to the MHC class I receptor CD1 differs functionally by presenting lipid antigens to T cells (Germain & Margulies, 1993).To date, five classes of the CD1 genes have been identified across different mammalian species, namely CD1A, CD1B, CD1C, CD1D, and CD1E (Brigl & Brenner, 2004). In swine various tissues express CD1C even though its gene has been reported to carry a loss-of-function mutation (Eguchi-Ogawa et al. 2007). CD1 is predominantly found on dendritic cells, macrophages, monocytes, and thymocytes (Chun et al. 1999).
