This antibody recognises interleukin-17B (IL-17B) also known as cytokine Zcyto7, IL-20 and neuronal interleukin-17-related factor. IL17B is a member of the IL-17 superfamily of cytokines and is expressed in a wide range of tissues and cell types including human pancreas, small intestine, chondrocytes and neurons. There is limited information about the biological functions of IL17B, but it is known to act as a proinflammatory cytokine inducing TNFa and IL-1ß production in THP-1 cells and stimulating neutrophil infiltration (Bie et al. 2017, Liu et al. 2020). IL-17B has also been reported to induce the migration of CXCR4+ or CXCR5+ germinal center B cells to CXCL12 and CXCL13.
