Rabbit anti MMP-2 antibody recognizes 72 kDa type IV collagenase, also known as 72 kDa gelatinase, gelatinase A, MMP-2 and TBE-1. It belongs to the matrix metalloproteinases (MMPs) family (McCawley and Matrisian 2001) related to zinc-dependent endopeptidases of Metzicin family (Mannello and Medda 2012). MMPs are produced and assembled in the cytoplasm as proenzymes (Xie et al. 2017). The expression of MMP2 has been associated with poor prognosis in brain neoplasms (Jaalinoja et al. 2000), ovarian carcinoma (Davidson et al. 1999) and lung carcinoma (Kodate et al. 1997).
