Rabbit polyclonal antibody to BDNF.

This antibody recognises human brain-derived neurotrophic factor (BDNF), also known as abrineurin. BDNF is a secreted 119 amino acid ~30 kDa protein with an additional 18 amino acid signal peptide and a 110 amino acid propeptide region. BDNF is a potent neurotrophin and member of the NGF-beta family, secreted from dense core vesicles, which promotes the growth, differentiation and survival of neurons within, or directly connected to, the central nervous system (CNS).BDNF signals through binding to the high affinity receptor trkB, and also binds to the low affinity neurotrophin receptor LNGFR. BDNF is involved in the modulation of short-term synaptic function and in the formation of long-term memory. BDNF is modulated during progression of Alzheimer's with an early increase and reducel levels in patients with latter stages of Alzheimer's. Decreased levels of BDNF are also noted in the progression of Huntington's disease.

Reconstitute with 0.1 ml of distilled water. Care should be taken during reconstitution as the protein may appear as a film at the bottom of the vial. Gently mix after reconstitution. For long term storage the addition of 0.09% sodium azide is recommended.

Supplied in Phosphate Buffered Saline.

Lyophilized: Store at -20°C. Reconstituted: Store undiluted at -20°C, avoid freeze / thaw cycles. Storage in frost free freezers is not recommended. Should this product contain a precipitate we recommend microcentrifugation before use.
